AMSOIL ATV-UTV Continuous Variable Transmission Fluid

AMSOIL 100% Synthetic ATV/UTV Continuously Variable Transmission Fluid

AMSOIL ATV/UTV Continuously Variable Transmission Fluid (CVTs) are different from regular gearboxes.
They use a belt between two pulleys to give smooth, constantly changing “gear” ratios.

That belt needs the right grip to avoid slipping, overheating, or wearing out early.
This is where AMSOIL 100% Synthetic ATV/UTV Continuously Variable Transmission Fluid comes in.

Smooth Power With No Belt Slip

This CVT fluid is engineered with special friction properties.
It helps the belt stay firmly planted on the pulleys, so power goes to the wheels instead of turning into heat and shudder.

  • Helps prevent belt slip
  • Reduces shudder and harsh engagement
  • Keeps your CVT feeling smooth and responsive

You feel more confident throttle control on hills, in mud, and when you hammer the gas.

Built For Heavy Loads And Hard Riding

ATVs and UTVs often work hard:

  • Extra passengers
  • Loaded racks and trailers
  • Bigger tires and accessories
  • Aggressive driving in deep mud, sand, or rocks

All of that loads the CVT and raises torque and pressure inside.
This fluid has strong film strength to stand up to that abuse and help protect:

  • Belts
  • Pulleys
  • Internal CVT components

It’s designed to reduce wear in severe-service use, so your transmission can last longer, even when you push it.

Ready For Extreme Heat And Bitter Cold

CVTs generate a lot of heat when:

  • You climb long hills
  • Ride slow technical trails
  • Tow or haul heavy loads

This synthetic CVT fluid resists breaking down under high temperatures.
It helps:

  • Cool and protect internal parts
  • Reduce harmful deposits
  • Extend fluid life

In winter, it stays fluid in subzero conditions, so engagement stays smooth and operation feels normal when cold.
That means year-round performance in both hot summers and cold seasons.

OEM-Ready Confidence

This product is designed as an excellent alternative to many original equipment manufacturer CVT fluids.
It is engineered for modern ATV and UTV CVTs and is Warranty Secure, so you can use it with confidence while keeping your factory warranty intact.

FAQ – AMSOIL 100% Synthetic ATV/UTV Continuously Variable Transmission Fluid

1. What does CVT fluid actually do in my ATV or UTV?

CVT fluid does more than just “lubricate.” It helps the belt grip the pulleys, transfers power to the wheels, cools the transmission and protects internal parts from wear, even when you ride hard or tow.

2. Why would I choose AMSOIL CVT Fluid instead of the stock OEM fluid?

AMSOIL 100% Synthetic ATV/UTV CVT Fluid is designed to resist heat, belt slip and viscosity breakdown in severe use. Many riders choose it because they work or play with heavy loads, ride in deep mud or sand, or just want stronger protection than a basic OEM fill.

3. Will this CVT fluid help prevent belt slip and shudder?

Yes. It is engineered with specific friction characteristics to help the belt stay planted on the pulleys. That helps reduce shudder, harsh engagement and slip under load, giving smoother, more confident takeoffs and hill climbs.

4. Is AMSOIL CVT Fluid safe for my warranty?

The fluid is designed as an excellent alternative to many OEM CVT fluids and is formulated to meet or exceed the performance required for modern ATV/UTV CVTs. When used as directed and matched correctly to your application, it is intended for use without voiding your factory warranty. Always keep records and follow your manufacturer’s service schedule.

5. How often should I change my ATV or UTV CVT fluid?

Follow the service interval in your owner’s manual first. If you ride in severe conditions—deep mud, sand, heavy towing, high heat or slow technical trails—you may want to shorten that interval. Many riders change CVT fluid more often than the bare minimum when they work their machines hard.

6. Can I just top off my existing CVT fluid with AMSOIL, or should I do a full change?

A small top-off in an emergency is usually fine, but the best results come from a full drain and refill. That way the transmission runs on one fluid with consistent friction and protection properties, instead of a mixed blend of unknown condition.

7. Will switching to AMSOIL CVT Fluid make my ATV or UTV run cooler?

It is designed to resist breakdown under heat and help carry heat away from internal parts. While it is not a substitute for proper cooling and maintenance, many riders notice more consistent performance and less “hot fade” in demanding conditions after switching.

8. Is this CVT fluid okay for winter riding and ice fishing trips?

Yes. The synthetic base oil remains fluid at very low temperatures, which helps the CVT engage smoothly in cold weather. You get more predictable takeoff and less sluggish behavior when starting in freezing conditions.

9. Can I use this fluid if I have bigger tires, a lift kit, or tow a lot?

Those upgrades add stress and load to the CVT. This fluid is designed for severe-service use, with strong film strength to protect under high torque and heavy loads. It’s a smart choice for machines that are worked harder than stock.

10. Do I still need to inspect my belt and clutches if I use AMSOIL CVT Fluid?

Yes. Even with premium fluid, belts and clutches are wear items. You should periodically inspect the belt for cracks, glazing or width loss and clean the clutch housings as recommended. The fluid protects and supports the system, but it does not replace normal maintenance.

How To Change CVT Fluid In Your ATV/UTV

Always read your owner’s manual first. Some machines have “sealed” CVTs that require dealer service or special tools. The steps below are a general guide and may not match every model.

1. Get Your Tools And Supplies Ready

You will typically need:

  • Correct AMSOIL ATV/UTV CVT Fluid for your machine
  • Drain pan
  • Basic hand tools (sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers)
  • Funnel or fluid transfer pump
  • Shop rags and gloves
  • New crush washer or O-ring for the drain plug (if used)
  • Torque wrench (recommended)

Park on a level surface where spilled fluid can be contained and cleaned up.

2. Warm Up The Transmission Briefly

Start the machine and drive gently for a few minutes.
This helps the fluid warm slightly so it drains more completely.
Do not get it extremely hot; just a light warm-up is enough.

Shut the engine off and let it sit for a short time so hot parts are safe to work around.

3. Secure The Machine Safely

  • Place the ATV/UTV in park or in gear with the parking brake set.
  • Chock the wheels if needed so it cannot roll.
  • If you need more room underneath, use an appropriate lift or ramps and support with jack stands rated for the weight.

Never work under an unsupported machine.

4. Locate The CVT Drain And Fill/Level Ports

On many models, the CVT case has:

  • A drain plug at the lowest point
  • A fill or level plug on the side or top of the case

Some machines may require removing a guard or skid plate.
If you cannot identify the CVT drain and fill plugs with certainty, stop and refer to the manual or have a qualified shop perform the service.

5. Place The Drain Pan And Remove The Drain Plug

Slide the drain pan under the CVT drain plug.
Carefully loosen and remove the plug, watching for:

  • Hot fluid
  • A crush washer or sealing ring that may drop into the pan

Allow the fluid to drain completely. This may take several minutes.

6. Inspect And Reinstall The Drain Plug

Wipe the drain plug clean and inspect the threads.
If there is a magnet on the plug, check for metal particles and note anything unusual.

Install a new crush washer or O-ring if the design uses one.
Reinstall the drain plug by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten to the torque value specified by your manufacturer.

7. Remove The Fill Or Level Plug

Find the CVT fill or level plug on the side or top of the case.
Carefully remove it.
This is where you will add new fluid.

If your machine uses a “level plug” system, fluid should be filled until it reaches the bottom of that opening or a specific level, as described in your manual.

8. Add New CVT Fluid

Using a funnel or fluid transfer pump:

  • Slowly add AMSOIL ATV/UTV CVT Fluid through the fill opening
  • Add in small increments, checking the level periodically

If your machine uses a sight plug or level-check method, follow that procedure until the fluid reaches the correct level.
Avoid overfilling, which can cause foaming and leaks.

9. Reinstall The Fill/Level Plug And Check For Leaks

Once the fluid is at the correct level:

  • Install the fill/level plug and tighten to the specified torque
  • Wipe off any spills and check around both plugs for leaks

Reinstall any guards or skid plates you removed earlier.

10. Start The Machine And Do A Final Check

Start the engine and let it idle in park or neutral.
Shift gently through the ranges if recommended by your manual, then back to park.

Shut the machine off and:

  • Recheck the area around the CVT for leaks
  • Confirm that engagement feels normal on a short test drive

If everything looks and feels good, the service is complete.
Dispose of used fluid properly at a recycling center or auto parts store that accepts waste oil.
